Two teams. One AUMT.
Following the amalgamation of the University of South Australia and The University of Adelaide's motorsport programs, AUMT now operates as a single, cohesive team, bringing together the capability and experience of two previously established Formula SAE teams.
The 2026 leadership team

Studying Mechanical Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing, Jack sets the overall direction of the team and supports every department. This year the focus is strong communication between leadership and the wider team, navigating the merger and building better systems. For Jack, AUMT is about developing people: industry-ready graduates with the skills and confidence to contribute beyond university.

Alex oversees every engineering subsystem and steers the team towards one cohesive engineering goal. The merger has combined two campuses and 20 years of knowledge from both teams. This year brings a huge technical shift to a hub drive platform with independent control of each wheel, including custom gearboxes that neither team has built before.

Studying Mechanical Engineering, Mirella runs sponsorship, finances and marketing, working with sponsor liaisons and managing the budget so every subsystem has what it needs. Mirella also leads social media and team events like Launch Night and open track days. This year AUMT is reaching further: on radio, at engineering networking events and in local schools.

A Mechanical Engineering student, Grace leads the structures team, making sure the car has a chassis that everything else connects to. The big evolution is the carbon fibre monocoque that replaced the old spaceframe. The goal is simple: a driving car that wins at competition.

A second-year Mechanical Engineering student, Josh leads vehicle dynamics, whose job is to make a good car great by finding every last tenth of a second. The department is redesigning the suspension and brakes around the first hub motor package and developing set-ups for the new car's torque vectoring.

In the final year of Mechanical Engineering (Defence Systems), Zane leads Powertrains, an entirely new subsystem covering motor and inverter choices, drive layout and every high voltage device on the car. The goal for the year is a complete, working hub motor package on ADL26e at competition, upskilling members along the way.

In the final year of Mechanical Engineering (Aerospace) and Finance and Banking, Ethan leads aerodynamics: guiding airflow to maximise downforce and minimise drag, while making the car look amazing. A highlight this year was a full-car wind tunnel test to validate the team's CFD. The focus now is upskilling new members and refining the aero package.

Engineering and business
AUMT is structured into Engineering and Business divisions working together to design, build and compete. Engineering focuses on technical development, while Business manages partnerships, media and team operations.
Technical development of the car, from first concept to the grid.
- AerodynamicsWings, undertray and bodywork, designed in CFD and validated on track.
- ElectricalPCBs, sensors, embedded software, wiring and the driver's dash.
- PowertrainThe high-voltage accumulator, inverter, motors and final drive.
- StructuresThe carbon fibre monocoque, impact structures and mounting systems.
- Vehicle DynamicsSuspension, steering and brakes, tuned from simulation and test data.

The AUMT mindset
Innovation
The competition challenges students to think beyond conventional solutions. With autonomous categories and rapidly evolving EV technology, AUMT is committed to staying at the forefront of automotive engineering.
Sustainability
Aligned with the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics, we prioritise sustainability across the team, reflected in our electric vehicle program and efficient, high-performance design.
Community and industry preparedness
A collaborative environment built on safety, inclusivity and professional growth, working closely with industry so members gain exposure to real engineering practice.
Adaptability
Continuous learning, iterative design and responsive decision-making throughout the development cycle.
Resilience
From design iterations to competition setbacks, we learn, improve and push forward. Every challenge becomes an opportunity for growth.
